Golden Rule

The Journey for Peace

At Gnarly Bay, we live for stories that help make our world a better place. Whether it’s through films about environmental activism or social justice, we want to be a part of the conversation. Such is the case with Golden Rule -  a short, and timely film, about the brave efforts of a generation of sailors to ensure a safer world for all.

We shot this film in a decidedly Gnarly fashion. And by that we mean, rolling up our sleeves and getting into it with a small crew, a small boat, and a large ocean. Primary filming for this film began long before nuclear war felt like a possibility. But as the situation in Ukraine escalates we feel an urgent need to finish this film and unearth the potential threat nuclear mismanagement has for humanity and our environment as a whole.

Through this film we hope to educate and to inspire even greater action to preserve a safer, more peaceful world, for us all to call home.

THE HISTORY

The Golden Rule is America's first environmental protest boat and began its mission in 1958 when a crew of 4 sailed across the Pacific into a nuclear test zone off the Marshall islands.

Today the mission continues in partnership with Veterans For Peace to abolish the use and manufacture of nuclear weapons while reconciling with past traumas and looking ahead to mitigate further destruction of indigenous communities and our environment at the hands of nuclear mismanagement. Join us in our commitment to a nuclear free planet as the Golden Rule sails around the US spreading its message once again.

GET INVOLVED

We have recently begun fundraising efforts in partnership with the The Redford Center through tax deductible donations and we are eager to share the film with you upon completion.

We are seeking community support in hopes that this film can be used as a tool to drive peace and bring our world together as we work to de-escalate nuclear threat and heal multigenerational wounds at the hands of nuclear mismanagement. Now, more than ever, education and reaching a vast audience is of dire and urgent importance.
